Slow-Mo (2)

Boys Don't Cry (Title)

 We have thought of this title for our opening scene. A general idea is there in our minds on how we would take up the story line for this. We have started our work for the script/synopsis.

180 ° Rule

180 degree rule states that the two characters in a scene should always have the same left/right relationship with each other.  It is a film-making technique that helps the audience keep a track of where your characters in a scene.

Screen-Play Formatting

We've been instructed to write our short film for submission on CAIE on Fade-In. Here are some few instructions while constructing our script on Fade-In: - SLUG LINE ( SCENE HEADING ) mention of interior and exterior location  day ( morning , evening , night )  -   ACTION ( DESCRIPTION OF SCENE ) should be in present tense what is happening in the scene? -   CHARACTERS ( ACTORS IN A SCENE ) should be in full caps and should be in the center an important element in the production team -   PARATHETICAL  should be written in brackets under character name an emotion to be written e.g. angry , happy -  DIALOGUE

 Mise-en-scene is the stage design and arrangement of actors in a scenes both in visual arts through story-boarding. It is a French term which was used in the earliest forms of performing arts i.e. theater.   It contains 5 elements: composition props and costumes lighting  actors sets

Color Psychology

 Color Psychology is using the colors correctly in order to enhance the feeling of a message to give a strong message to the audience/viewer. Colors influence perceptions that aren't obvious such as taste of food. Colors have that qualities that can cause certain emotions in people. There are some common colors that trigger people's emotions but , colors can have a positive and negative effect on people. Red shows excitement , love , strength but also depicts danger , blood and fire. Orange shows confidence , success , bravery but rudeness and untrustworthiness are negative. Yellow is creativity , warmth , happiness but shows betrayal , anxiety. Green depicts nature , healing but negatively it shows materialism and possessiveness. Black showing security , dramatic , and formality but shows sadness , depression and secretive. White shows clean , simplicity , honesty but negatively shows cold and isolated. Blue depicts trust , peace and loyalty but fear and irrationality.

What does a story contain?

 Antagonist : opposing force that creates conflict ( in either human form or environment ) Protagonist : the leading character or the main characters in a play . film or novel. Conflict : It is a struggle between opposing forces. Obstacle : these are problems that stand in the hero's way and essential to any film. Goal : It defines what the character is trying to achieve in the story. Objective : perspective tends to use wider shots to show all the characters or a larger portion of the story. Sympathy : It is when you feel bad for the other person  Empathy : It is when you can relate to other persons struggle.   Act Structure Anti-Hero Climax : highest point in a story or film.

Composition (Theory )

 Composition refers to how the elements on screen appear in respect to each other and within the frame itself. Composition can contain a lot of terms ; Rule of Thirds is a composition guideline that places your subject in left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds open.  Look-Room is the space that the subject is looking towards in the frame , your subject should be the majority in the frame. If you are using the rule of thirds your character will have the 2/3 of the frame. Head-Room is the space that is between the top of the subject's head and top of the frame  Some rules that are essential to keep in mind while Composing : apply rule of thirds center your subject look for triangles look for symmetry  keep background simple let the background show context  include a person or a thing/object use contrast to add interest show your subjects in motion

Camera Movements ( Theory )

 Camera Movement is a film-making technique that causes a change in frame or perspective through the movement of camera. Camera Movement allows cinematographers and directors to shift audience views without cutting scenes.  Panning consists of horizontal and vertical movement of the camera to shoot the film. The Pan turns camera either to left and right. Tracking Shot ( Dolly Shot ) is the movement of camera towards or from an object or subject.  Zooming , zoom doesn't really move enlarges or reduces the proportion of frames. Crane/Helicopter the camera are free from the ground. Tilt pivots the camera upwards or downwards often to survey surroundings/environment. Hand Held shots the camera  is carried by the operator often creating an uneven environment.

A camera shot is a continuous view through a single camera without interruption.by combining different types of camera shots , movements and angles.
